Dr. Kevin Gaw, Executive Director of the Amica Center for Career Education, is an advocate for student success and makes himself available to Bryant students for consultations and work on special career-oriented projects. Before coming to Bryant, he was Senior Director of University Career Services at Georgia State University and, before that, Director of Career Development at the University of Nevada, Reno. He also is a counseling psychologist who has provided mental health services at college counseling centers, including the University of Nevada, Reno, and Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly UMR). He grew up in Malaysia, has worked in Indonesia, and has extensive international and intercultural experience. Dr. Gaw earned his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara; an M.A. in Education from San José State University; and a B.A. in Anthropology and Southeast Asian Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Aside from running the day-to-day operations of the center, Yvonne Combies assists the director and assistant directors with marketing for various workshops, programs and career fairs. She also supervises work-study students. She previously served as assistant to the head of Upper School at Moses Brown School, and worked at Providence Hebrew Day School, both in Providence, RI. Yvonne attended Community College of Rhode Island.
Julie Carchedi, Assistant Director of Events and Marketing, responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating and marketing the Amica Center for Career Education’s signature events. Julie will also oversee, coordinate, and facilitate the distribution of events marketing. Julie joined the Amica team with 10 years of Advancement experience focused on special event fundraising, volunteer recruitment, enrollment and marketing.
Denise Gormley, Senior Internship Assistant, works with students, employers, and faculty to support high quality internships for Bryant University students. She also coordinates part-time jobs and volunteer opportunities, enhancing students' experiential education. Previously, Denise was in the cable television industry in customer service. She holds an Associate's Degree in liberal arts from Community College of Rhode Island.
Heather Grim, Internship Coordinator, supports the Experiential Education Program, working closely with all functions of the Academic Internship Program and Employer Relations team. Before coming to Bryant, she held other student services roles supporting high school and college students in both private and nonprofit sectors. Heather graduated from Bridgewater State University, majoring in Communication Studies and Psychology.
Scott Connolly, Assistant Director of Technology, Assessment and Communication, responsible for career services management technology (i.e., Bryant Career Connection – BCC) and other student-facing career exploration web-based technologies,the reporting of student learning outcomes and other assessment efforts of the Amica Center. Scott holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Stonehill College and a M.A. in Higher Education Student Affairs from the University of Connecticut. Scott joined the Amica team with 7 years of experience from Bryant’s Residence Life Office where he served in multiple capacities.
Nancy Friel, Recruitment Coordinator, oversees the logistics of the Recruiting Program for postgraduate and internship placement, as well as the center’s three major career fairs. Nancy also serves as the point person for the department’s technology and Banner system. Before coming to Bryant, Nancy worked in the accounting field in various capacities including accounting supervisor, controller, and cost accountant for high-end construction projects.
As Assistant Director of Employer Outreach and Development, Pat Miernicki promotes Bryant University and its students to prospective employers, developing new opportunities for internships and full-time positions that meet students' diverse career interests. Pat holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science/Public Administration with a minor in history and women’s studies from Long Island University. She has 15 years of experience as a development officer at Bryant and, previously, at Providence College.
Career Development Team
Veronica Mansour, Associate Director, leads our career development team in providing individual career coaching, programming, and high quality career resources for students. She previously worked at Salve Regina University and Rhode Island College, and remains active on the Board of Directors for the Rhode Island Career Development Association and on the ethics committee for the National Career Development Association. Veronica has a master's degree in agency counseling with a background in mental health services.
Liam Hillery, Career Coach, works individually with students and provides career education programming to the student community. He has experience in both K-12 and higher education and is pursuing a master’s degree in Higher Education Counseling at Providence College. Liam’s goal for his work at Bryant is to guide students to new, exciting, and fulfilling opportunities. His areas of focus include students in the arts and sciences and Bryant student-athletes.
Amy Ames, Career Coach, works one-on-one with students to assist with resumes and cover letters, career exploration and assessments, mock interviews, and job search and negotiation strategies. Amy, certified as a Co-Active Coach by the Coaches Training Institute, holds a B.A. in Political Science and Spanish from St. Michael's College, Colchester, VT. She has over 15 years' experience working in higher education in the Alumni Relations Department at Brown University and as an Assistant Vice President Recruiting and Training at Lehman Brothers, New York City.
