Timothy Drechsler-Martell ’13: A path enriched by faculty and alumni

Major: Finance
Minor: Legal Studies, Global Supply Chain Management
Path: Assistant portfolio analyst, Hartford Investment Management Company

“What is better at Bryant is that you can go to the professors at almost any time,” says Timothy Drechsler-Martell ’13. “The Bryant faculty is really committed to providing that one-on-one experience. They  met with me and talked over my plans, what I hoped to do, how I could get there. They gave advice and shared their own experiences. And I used that to really guide me through my path.”

“Bryant taught me [to] take advantage of the opportunities that come during your internship and make sure you meet the right people and build great relationships. That’s something that I embraced.”

Drechsler-Martell performed so well during an internship at the Hartford Investment Management Company that the company offered him a full-time position. After graduation, he began a career as an assistant portfolio analyst.

As a member of the Honors Program, Drechsler-Martell enjoyed special events like trips to Washington D.C. For his senior capstone project, he studied the impact of new product announcements on fast food companies’ stock returns.

Beyond the classroom, he appreciated the alumni engagement and presence on campus. “There were many opportunities to interact with Bryant alumni. They are active in the career center, and  there are a lot of on-campus interviews and career fairs where alumni are among the recruiters.”

Drechsler-Martell also took advantage of the career center’s many services, including the career panels, alumni networking events, and the cover letter and resume writing workshops. But it wasn't all work and no play. “Bryant creates a really positive, competitive environment in the classroom and outside of it. There’s the very exciting Division 1 sports environment -- people love going to basketball games.”
