Stephanie Shepherd '15: Purposefully preparing for anything
As graduation draws near, Stephanie Shepherd is in high spirits, but it’s rare when she isn’t. In June, she starts her career at Liberty Mutual Insurance in Boston. She received an offer to join the Human Resources Development Program (HRDP) in August 2014 following an extensive interview process.
“I interviewed with three alumni who are so supportive of my endeavors."
Shepherd had never considered a career in HR until she secured an internship with the company last summer. “I loved the work and the variety of tasks, and I couldn’t wait to go back every day,” she says. “Liberty has such a positive and welcoming atmosphere and culture.”
As an HRDP Associate, Shepherd will complete a two-year rotational program exposing her to all aspects of HR at the company. Her fellow employees will include a cadre of Bryant alumni she met during her internship. “I interviewed with three alumni who are so supportive of my endeavors,” she says. “And one of the people I reported to during my internship was a Bryant graduate. She was such an inspiration to me – and a great mentor.”
Shepherd, a transfer student from a North Carolina university, literally dove into the Bryant experience. Her campus involvement boggles the mind, but she places academics above all else – a view that is reinforced campus-wide. She learned to balance it all by being extremely organized, managing her time, and prioritizing. Among her many activities, she held two executive board positions, was president of the Student Alumni Association, Coordinator of the Bryant Ambassador Program, a Resident Assistant, and a mentor to underclassmen.
“Because of Bryant’s challenging curriculum and the many opportunities for leadership and success, I feel incredibly prepared for anything that comes my way,” she says. “None of my academic, professional, or personal success would have been possible had I not transferred to Bryant. I am so proud to be graduating from such a terrific university.”
