Alexia Bayer '15: Young professional on the move
Major: International Business (Finance); French concentration
Hometown: South Windsor, CT
Path: Financial Analyst, The Hartford
Alexia Bayer is a financial analyst in the Early Career Leadership Development Program at The Hartford, a Fortune 500 investment and insurance company. The Honors Program member interviewed for the position during a summer internship there in 2014, which she learned about through the Amica Center for Career Education. She received a full-time offer at the start of her senior year and promptly accepted, drawn to the organization’s people and culture.
"My professors continue to support me."
The program comprises three one-year rotations; participants compete for placements through a series of interviews. The company created a Middle Market International Finance offering this year and Bayer applied. “As a result of my Bryant education, I could speak about international financial reporting standards, currency exchange, international business risks, regulatory factors, and more,” she says. “I landed the rotation.”
A transfer student, Bayer decided to major in International Business with a Finance track, adding a liberal arts concentration in French. She secured her current position partly because of her ability to speak the language, enhanced by study in France for a semester. “Our new international business partner is based in Paris, and we also have a branch in Canada,” she says. “I was invited to attend the strategy sessions and conversed with them in French during breaks and meals.”
In 2015, Bayer was named Outstanding International Business Student, received an award for Academic Achievement in French, and graduated with highest honors.
“I keep in touch with many of my professors, and they continue to support me,” she says. “They pushed me to learn and grow as a person and a student, and encouraged me to be open-minded, logical, and creative. I truly believe this has set me apart as a young professional in my field.”
